A Promise to Herself is an original gouache Pop Art portrait by artist Brett Hodges of Quiet Corner Art Studio in Omaha, Nebraska.

This painting is the second portrait in my Brides in Red collection, a series centered on non-traditional bridal portraits reimagined through my Pop Art style. With this piece, I wanted to continue exploring red as a symbol of independence, strength, beauty, and self-possession.

The title, A Promise to Herself, reflects the idea that a bride’s commitment can also be personal. Before she steps toward another person, there is also a quiet promise to remain true to who she is. I wanted the pose to feel confident and reflective, with the figure turned away but still fully present.

Created with bold black and white line work, a limited red palette, and a decorative floral background, this original gouache portrait continues my focus on contemporary portrait art, minimalist Pop Art, bridal portraiture, and women portrayed with quiet strength.
