Jule André is an original gouache Pop Art portrait by artist Brett Hodges of Quiet Corner Art Studio in Omaha, Nebraska.

I chose Jule André as the first portrait in this series because she is not as widely remembered as many of the era’s major film stars and fashion figures, yet her image carries the same elegance, mystery, and visual strength that defined the late 1920s. A 1928 Vogue magazine photograph served as my reference, offering a glimpse into a time when fashion, portrait photography, and modern femininity were beginning to shape a new cultural language.

This original gouache Pop Art portrait was created with bold black and white line work, a vivid red accent palette, and a decorative background that reflects the elegance and graphic beauty of the period. Painted with Winsor & Newton gouache on archival cotton paper and finished with Dorland’s Wax, this work continues my focus on contemporary portrait art, minimalist Pop Art, fine art portraiture, 1920s fashion history, and the women who helped define early modern style.
