Marilyn’s Legacy is an original gouache Pop Art portrait by artist Brett Hodges of Quiet Corner Art Studio in Omaha, Nebraska.

Marilyn Monroe has been painted so often because she remains a true icon and a national treasure, but I wanted to approach this portrait from a more intimate place. I chose a reference connected to one of her final photo sessions, hoping to capture her as a woman who still appeared to have her whole life ahead of her, beautiful, vulnerable, and unforgettable.

This painting was created with bold black and white line work, a limited red accent palette, and a floral background that gives the piece a sense of softness and contrast. Painted with Winsor & Newton gouache on archival cotton paper and finished with Dorland’s Wax, the work continues my interest in contemporary portrait art, minimalist Pop Art, fine art portraiture, and the lasting legacy of iconic women in American culture.
