Curator's Note: La luz entre los mundos

This original painting offers a serene and contemplative modern interpretation of La Calavera Catrina. Titled La luz entre los mundos (The Light Between Worlds), the artwork features a striking portrait of La Catrina gazing thoughtfully across the horizon. Her dark hair is adorned with two vibrant red roses.

I painted this piece using rich Winsor & Newton gouache on cotton paper. I utilized a landscape format to create a sense of negative space and quiet mystery that honors the spiritual depth of Día de los Muertos.

What makes this piece truly unique for collectors is the archival finish. I have mounted the cotton paper onto an acid-free board and sealed the surface with Dorland’s Wax. This technique completely eliminates the need for glass. It allows you to enjoy a glare-free and intimate view of the painted texture without reflections. It arrives in a textured black frame and is ready to hang the moment it reaches your door.

I designed this piece to be experienced without barriers. The cotton paper is reinforced on an acid-free mat board with pH Neutral adhesive. I finish the surface with Dorland’s Wax, which protects the painting and eliminates the need for glass. This offers you a rare, glare-free view of the brushwork and texture. It arrives in a textured black frame that complements the composition and is ready to hang the moment it arrives at your door.
