This original painting captures the haunting beauty of La Catrina, a beloved icon of Día de los Muertos. Titled El corazón no olvida (The Heart Does Not Forget), this piece is my modern interpretation of her. It features a captivating portrait adorned with a crown of vibrant red roses and traditional sugar skull makeup.

I painted this striking image using rich Winsor & Newton gouache on cotton paper. The high-contrast composition balances stark black and white elements with bold splashes of crimson. These red accents symbolize love and remembrance, ensuring the viewer feels the emotional weight of the holiday.

What makes this piece truly unique for collectors is the archival finish. I have mounted the cotton paper onto an acid-free board and sealed the surface with Dorland’s Wax.
